Research / Institutional Work

Research built for consequential decisions.

We architect research programmes that turn difficult institutional questions into published evidence, formal frameworks and operational knowledge assets.

Work spans institutional AI, financial systems, private markets, valuation, governance, risk and capital allocation.

02 / Research domains

A research practice across systems, capital and institutional decision-making.

The work begins with the question and its decision context, then draws together the domains needed to build a defensible answer.

  1. 01

    Private Intelligence / Institutional AI

Governed AI, AI assurance, model behaviour under bounded evidence, auditability, data sovereignty, institutional controls and private deployment architecture.

Public programme: PI-SF / Silence Is Not Clearance

  2. 02

    Financial AI / Investment Banking

Financial reasoning, investment banking cognition, private-equity workflows, evaluation of financial agents and governed decision systems.

Relevant programmes: Phronesis research lineage and Cognitive Primitives of Investment Banking

  3. 03

    Capital Allocation / AI Infrastructure

Capital formation, operational intelligence, AI infrastructure, deployment economics and institutional capability architecture.

Relevant papers: AXIOM, Operational Intelligence, Ghost Profit Protocol and IP-Collateralised Rotating Credit Leverage

  4. 04

Risk / Valuation / Regime Dynamics

Non-stationary valuation, regime fragility, signal extraction and governed macro-risk overlays.

    Public programme: Cassandra Risk

  5. 05

    Quantum Capital Allocation

Experimental valuation frameworks, interference and entanglement analogies, regime-conditional capital allocation and company-specific research programmes.

These are published research frameworks; no physical quantum computation or quantum-hardware use is claimed.

03 / How the work moves

From a difficult question to a defensible research asset.

The output depends on the problem. The research discipline stays constant.

  1. 01

    Define

Frame the consequential question, boundary conditions and intended decision use.

  2. 02

    Map

Identify the relevant evidence base, competing literatures, sources and constraints.

  3. 03

    Synthesize

Build a coherent conceptual architecture from the evidence rather than merely summarising it.

  4. 04

    Stress-test

Challenge assumptions, boundary conditions, contradictions and failure modes.

  5. 05

    Operationalize

Translate the research into a paper, framework, benchmark, evaluation suite, software asset or governed operating model.

04 / Research architecture in practice

Cross-domain framework synthesis

From a cross-domain research question to a published institutional framework.

Winning at Value Creation: The Championship Cycle as the Formal Synthesis of Elite Sports Performance Science and Private Equity Operational Doctrine

Little Black Journal LLP contributed research architecture to an independent cross-domain study examining how institutions build and sustain high performance across cycles.

The resulting 58-page paper synthesised 40 peer-reviewed studies across sports performance science and private equity research, formalising the five-phase Championship Cycle and an Institutional Training Maturity Benchmark for practitioners.

05 / Selected programmes

Research that moved beyond the paper.

Selected trajectories showing how a research thesis can become a public artifact, technical reference or operational structure without outrunning the evidence.

01

Institutional AI / observational study

PI-SF / Silence Is Not Clearance

A research programme examining governance-visible failure modes in institutional AI screening workflows, supported by a public research artifact and immutable release.

03

Operational intelligence

Executable Intelligence / AXIOM

A research programme examining how intelligence can move from static analysis into executable and operational structures for AI-governed knowledge work.

The published research establishes the conceptual architecture; no production deployment claim is made.

04

Financial AI

Cognitive Primitives of Investment Banking

Published research into the reasoning primitives and ontology required for AI-driven augmentation in high-stakes finance.

Presented as a research framework; no production qualification or institutional adoption claim is made.

06 / Institutional context

Research designed to survive scrutiny outside the research room.

Institutional research is treated as an auditable asset: the question, evidence base, assumptions, limitations and resulting framework should remain understandable after the engagement ends.

  • 01Evidence traceability

Sources and their role in the argument remain inspectable.

  • 02Bounded claims

Conclusions remain proportionate to the evidence and method.

  • 03Explicit limitations

Boundary conditions and unresolved questions remain visible.

  • 04Public artifacts

Reproducible or inspectable materials are provided where appropriate.

  • 05Handover-ready outputs

Frameworks and evidence are documented for continued use.

07 / Published research

A public research record across AI, finance, risk and capital allocation.

Seventeen published papers grouped as a compact evidence index. The featured Championship Cycle paper above is a separate independent research collaboration.

Research brief / Institutional question

Bring us the question that needs a defensible answer.

Research engagements can begin with a difficult question, a fragmented evidence base, an emerging framework or a decision process that needs stronger intellectual architecture.
